My 33rd book for 2026 was Tedd Arnold’s Fly Guy Presents: Bats.  

This was another book my individual and I read.  

A kid named Buzz has a pet fly, and together they learn about bats.

It's a good kids book.  Surprisingly, I learned a lot about bats with this one.  Lots of cool facts and figures about it.  There's even a Batman reference.

Here is what I learned:

• Buzz doesn’t know much about bats.
• Almost all bats are nocturnal.
• Bats hang upside down to sleep.
• A group of bats is called a colony.
• Some colonies have more than 20 million bats.
• There are more than 1,200 species of bats.
• The most common bat in North America is the little brown bat.
• Bats live on every continent except Antartica.
• Bats are mammals.
• Bats are the only mammals who can fly.
• Most bats weigh less than 2 ounces.
• The Bumblebee Bat is the world’s smallest bat at about 1 inch long.
• The Greater Flying Fox Bat is the world’s largest bat stretching close to 5 feet.
• Bats eat insects, frogs, lizards, small birds, fish, fruit, flowers, and blood.
• Bats cannot run because their legs are too small.
• Bats have 2 thumbs on each wing.
• Bats use echolocation to navigate around.
• Some bats make sounds louder than 110 decibels.
• Bats hibernate in the winter.
• Most female bats only give birth to one baby each year.
• A baby bat is called a “pup”.
• Chiropterologists are scientists who study bats.
• Disk-wing bats were discovered in 2013.

Overall, good introduction book for kids to learn more about bats
