Star Trek V: The Final Frontier J.M. Dillard   Released: June 1st, 1989 My 48th book for 2025 was J.M. Dillard’s "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier".   After deviating from the beaten path for one novel, we’re back on track with the next movie novelization. We go from learning all about the mysterious Probe to…the rougher edges of The Final Frontier.  This is often cited as one of the weaker films, but Paramount also slashed the budget.  The story isn’t too terrible, but also not some great epic either. In the neglected planet of galactic peace, Nimbus III, an exiled Vulcan recruits homesteaders for a take over of the capital city.  During this takeover, the Romulan, Klingon, and Federation ambassadors are held hostage.  While on shore leave in Yosemite, the crew of the new Enterprise-A is recalled to duty to resolve the crisis on Nimbus III.  The ship is in utter disarray, and the transporters are not working, but the order is forced.  Upon ...

Star Trek: Probe Margaret Wander Bonanno   Released: April 1st, 1992 My 47th book for 2025 was Margaret Wander Bonanno’s "Star Trek: Probe".   I deviated from the beaten path this time.  You’re probably expecting Star Trek V: The Final Frontier to be here.  In 1992, a continuation novel was published about the Probe seen in The Voyage Home.  It features the Enterprise having to deal again with the Probe and the Romulans.  I have chosen to read this first as it directly correlates to the prior book. Funny tale about this one, I put this book on a Christmas list a back in 2012.  My aunt and uncle got it for me for Christmas.  They also gave me a gift card as well because they felt bad.  This book was only $0.01 on Amazon. Following the events of The Voyage Home, Starfleet receives word that the Romulan Praetor has died, and the Romulan Empire seeks a conference with the Federation in hopes that a sort of peace deal can be achieved. ...

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home Vonda N. McIntyre   Released: December 1st, 1986 My 46th book for 2025 was Vonda N. McIntyre’s "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home".   This is another of the Star Trek novels that I have read in the past and wanted to reread for this blog. I remember renting “The Voyage Home” from a video store in Shippensburg, PA when I attended the university in 2007.  The aesthetic of the film, and the plot made it appealing, and the more neutral whales plot made the film fresh and enjoyable. In this story, the surviving crew of the now destroyed Enterprise, votes to return to Earth in their now captured Klingon Bird of Prey, and stand trial for their crimes committed in The Search for Spock.  As they embark on the journey from Vulcan, a mysterious probe comes out of space heading towards earth and sending out a confusing audio transmission, that overwhelms starships and renders them powerless and floating.  The message is directed at the earth...
